WHAT IS THE MOVIE ABOUT?
The movie 'High Fidelity' is about Rob Gordon and his quest to find true love. Sure, the theme may be a bit cliché but trust me when I say that the movie is far from traditional. The movie starts with Rob Gordon lamenting about some music before the audiences are whisked into his turbulence love life. True enough, he is preoccupied with his current girlfriend, or should I say ex-girlfriend, Laura. Then he starts to tell us the story of his Top Five break-up list going through each one until he realizes that the true girl that he really wants is Laura all along. After the death of Laura's father both of them seem to comprehend that they may not be perfect but at least they love each other.
HOW IS IT DIFFERENT FROM COMMON LOVE FICTION?
'High Fidelity' is different from common love fiction. The movie strays from the path that conventional film makers often took. One of the differences that I noticed is that the protagonist need not be perfect in order to win his love. All he has to do is to try. Even if he falls, he need to get back to his feet, reflect on his plans and try again. Almost always we are served a love story in which the 'hero' is a rich, handsome, and has a princely air around him. However, in 'High Fidelity' the supposedly 'hero' is a man who is not the owner of the world's biggest yacht but the owner of a rundown music record. He also has his own satirical humour and his direct approach to life is refreshing.
WHO IS YOUR FAVOURITE CHARACTER AND WHY?
For me, my favourite character will be Laura. I sense an air of endurance about her. she is strong willed and strive to create a better life for herself. She is also a dynamic character. From the movie I can see that she is not perfect. She starts out as a party girl before toning it down to accommodate her life. She has a steady job and wants nothing more than to settle down. She also has a moment of weakness when she found out about Rob's infidelity and abort her baby. However, she is also trying to save her relationship with Rob. Although she has break-up with Rob the death of her father has bring the two of them together again.
PROVIDE AN ALTERNATE ENDING TO THE MOVIE.
For an alternate ending , I preferred that both of them do not get together, yet. Rob may had had too many chances already. He had realise it too late about the value of Laura. She will perhaps starts a new life somewhere in Florida, leaving Ian. In her new life she will meet new people and new surroundings. She will show that she has matured and not the same girl who once crave Rob Gordon's affection. For Rob, he will continue with his own life and becomes the best DJ ever before running to Laura and propose to her.
